The Shark Conservation and Predator Ecology (SCAPE) Lab is a new multidisciplinary research group at Eckerd College focused on sharks, rays, and other predatory fishes.
The core research focus of the SCAPE lab is untangling predator-prey relationships, reconstructing dietary niches, and monitoring food-web dynamics using a combination of stable isotope analysis and DNA metabarcoding to better understand foraging ecology, resource requirements, and disturbance risks facing threatened species.
Complementary to these efforts will be investigations into more diverse aspects of predator ecology including movement and habitat use, growth and life history, behavior, community dynamics, and more.
